In my latest self-educational venture, I've taken a page from my dear mother's book. Yesterday being my birthday, I managed to accquire an Asus Eee. (Hug, squeeze, call it Phobos.) Now I'm practicing her favourite tactic - not getting up because the vital elements (computer, internet) can now be brought to me.
Add in some minor waiter service (fried egg sandwich, smoothie) and a side of spluttered disbelief (from both of the older generation) and so far this seems to be panning out rather well. Apparently sometimes hypatia *does* get a good idea.
PS: Downside - being in bed means you can't run very fast from irked parents after they read you LJ entries. Must work on this.Current Mood: relaxed

So I found this BC disc in the dining room downstairs. Its origins are mystifying to me and hypatia, but anyways - closer inspection reveals it to be a '10 day free trial' disc. Because it's holidays now, I'm going to be a fish and bite the hook. Hence my earlier post re realms.
So I'm going to set up shop on Earthen Ring. Thinking Draenei paladin, because my original human paladin (who has been gathering dust for about a year) was more enjoyable than the Warlock, and I'd like to be on a realm with people I know. For like, extra fun. Anyone got Words of Wisdom for me?

| » Quote of the day |
While eating just now, the three of us entered into a heated debate with _hypatia_ involving her tendencies to retcon previous statements in favour of her own argument. In this case, apples. During the argument dingleflop_moon took centre stage (mostly because she was the one who complained in the first place) and campaigned against the regime of misinformation in a raised voice while me and dad tried to hide grins (and failed dismally).
Then there was a moment when _hypatia_ pulled one of the parental lines.
_hypatia_: 'You don't have to shout, I'm five meters away, not five miles!'.
dingleflop_moon: *full-volume bawl* "WELL IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING THROUGH TO YOU!"
This was too much for me and dad, who collapsed into fits of laughter. Mother, unsuprisingly, acted as though it hadn't happened, causing even more amusement.

After watching Dr Who, I have the same problem as I had last week.
I have that dalek theme thingy stuck in my head >_<
You know, the one that plays whenever the Daleks are up to no good. Such as when they produced the hybrid Sec.
Anyone know where I can get my mitts on this, or even what it's called? <__>

We've been working on the school production of Into the Woods for weeks now and the last show is tonight \o/ I think everyone involved is knackered, but we get to look forward to the after-show party, at which we will all drink lots of soft drinks *halo*. Hopefully by now I can get all the lighting cues (all 130 or so of them >_>) to work on time (thank god for programmable cues, at least) and the stage cues will work out too. A rogue flying dress does liven things up a little, especially on the headset system the crew use.
But i'm glad I joined in.
Next year? The stage manager and director have convinced me they're insane. Stage harnesses? Oh dear O_O
Hee hee =)

Maybe I'm being dense, but I'm not sure how to fix this one. Reinstalled windows recently and most things are shiny, much faster etc etc. However, my keyboard has once again reverted to wrongness and I've forgotten how to fix it.
The problem lies in the fact that keys do not do what they are told when combined with the shift key. Example:
@ is the result of pressing SHIFT+2. A quick check of what happens when I press SHIFT+' (which should give me @) in fact gives me ".
Another example? Pressing the SHIFT+the key to the left of the '1' key results in ~. And attempting to get the ~ symbol via the normally-correct key combo gives me |. As a matter of fact, just pressing the 'hash' key gives me \.
So my keyboard is currently a bit mucked up and this irks me. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Thanks in advance =)

Tagged by hobnobs Musicmusicmusic all the time when I'm in my room (in this case to the annoyance of parents who can't be bothered to come upstairs and talk to me. Because I can't hear them shouting for my attention =P). So...
List seven songs that you're into right now. No matter what genre, whether they have words or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Then tag seven other people and see what they're listening to.
1. 'Awakening' - The Damning Well 2. 'Map of the Problematique' - Muse 3. 'Just like you imagined' - Nine Inch Nails 4. 'Valley of the Damned' - Dragonforce 5. 'Aerials' - System of a Down 6. 'Unyielding' - Martin O'Donnell 7. 'The Badlands' - Steve Burke
And I hereby tag dingleflop_moon, knowitall_teen, doris_the_fairy and well, that's it because I wanted to tag people roughly the same age as me and I don't have many others on my friendslist who fit the description =]

I trudged along to school to day to collect the GCSE results (and to sympathise with my friends, who were also preparing for the parental Lecture). At the same time, I signed up for another two years in the madhouse (and got my mugshot taken for my identity cardthing. Joy =/) and the kind, understanding people there let me do the subjects I wanted to do (said subjects being maths mechanics, biology, chemistry, physics and music technology).
Now, as for the actual *results* - wellll, they weren't *too* bad. I got me an A*, 5 A's and 6 B's (if you include the B I got when I passed Spanish in Year 9). And I passed ICT GNVQ, which apparently gives me another 4 GCSEs. Or so they say. Anyways, I'm happy I got all B's and above. I'm sulking a bit about Maths, because I got over 80% and only got a B ¬_¬ Also, out of our entire year, only 1 person got higher than a B in Classics. Must've been pretty nasty grade boundaries.
Still, AS's next and (on an unrelated note) birthday in 5 days ^__^.
NB: For reference, the subjects I took were:
Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry German, Classical Civilisations, Geography, Music English Language, English Literature (the A* subject!) and RE.

| » Lay-zers =] |
Yesterday being a non-school day (teachers being trained again), happydisciple kindly offered to show us ( dingleflop_moon and I) round his workplace- IE the laser lab (Cold Matter department to be precise-I-think) at Imperial College. We promptly jumped at the chance and stooged up to the College (the Blackett Laboratory part), being met there by our esteemed guide. After a brief explanation of what the current project is, we descended to the basement to view the project itself. At that point I learned that they were kept in the basement because the upper floors tend to move- even just a tiny bit too much. The day was already showing educational merits =D
In the lab we observed many shiny constructions (including what I thought was a pretty neat array of mirrors, lenses etc that were designed to get the laser beam from point A to B in an impressively precise manner). We also learned that you should never wear anything shiny near laser experiments (in case of reflections into people's eyes, etc) and similarly, if you drop something close your eyes when you try and grab it. Because you tend to pass through the field of laser operation and you never know what you'll see.
After puzzling over the functions of many worryingly businesslike constructions (include one that I thought looked like a mine) and being introduced to the the idea that you can experiment with atoms by using videotape, we left the lab (having had our brains saturated with new knowledge =]) and met up with sierra_le_oli for dinner (pizza followed by, in Someone's case, a horribly chocolately chocolate fudge cake. She didn't manage to eat it all either, despite a brave try =P). Having been filled in both mind and stomach, we then headed for home. All in all it was a very interesting day out and not an experience frequently availible, so many thanks to happydisciple for the explanations and for the great day =D
